Answer the following: How do you use the principles of critical thinking in making sexual decisions? Give an example from your own life in which you would use critical thinking to make a decision about sex. Answer with a minimum word count of 200 words. When anticipating what principles of critical thinking in sexual decisions I use it depends on the situation. I need to take into consideration if I am single or in a relationship, also how long I been single or in a relationship for. These things are key factors in how my sexual decision critical thinking is affected. I will use past experiences of when I was single and how I acted are reacted to sexual encounters that that were affected because of my decisions that I made. I have never been the type of person that was going to wait till marriage for sex. My shyness though made it hard for me to experience my first sexual experience. This was due to the decisions I made I was scared of the subject, but acted as if I was not. When I first experienced sex my whole perspective changed, and this altered my decision making for the worse. I was the type of guy before sex that was still caution and always had a condom for protection, just in case it was needed. I did not date much so after the first encounter it was more of something that would happen on occasion. Mt decision making was poorly and my judgments were clouded for the worse. I had no self-respect for myself or the girls I just wanted to get me some. This in return lead me to many problems because I was careless with who I was having sex with protected and unprotected I had no respect for anyone. When I was single and in that time of my life I was experimenting and learning. When I became in a relationship for a short time it made me develop little self-control and respect for myself. Being in a short term relationship though it did not change the fact that I was a human, and in my mind it is human behavior be dominant. This meant that I did not care about occasionally having a affair with the girl that I was with. I felt it was all right because it was in the human nature. Unfortunately that type of attitude stabbed me in my back and my actions got back to me. The girl cheated on me back and I felt ashamed and hurt that she would do that to me. This helped me realize that I was in the wrong and altered my decision making. I am in the present now, and I am in a long term  relationship where my critical thinking in sexual decisions plays a huge role in us staying together. I could be the immature person I was years ago when first introduced to sex, but that would lead me nowhere. A long tern relationship revolves around trust and cheating and being dishonest breaks that trust, and you are left with nothing. I can say the relationship I am in today is all because of my past experiences and learning from my mistakes in the past. I have a daughter now at the age of 22, so I know how important it is to have safe sex. I am responsible now, and do not need another child not till later in life. I have learned that everyone has feelings and cheating is not being dominant, but hurting yourself and the one you are doing it to. The greatest thing I have learned is it is not always what you want, and sometimes you need to change your mood to make your partner happy. After all it is a relationship that means it involves keeping you are your partner happy.

In little over a quarter of a decade, this immense country has emerged from the rim of economic insignificance to lead the world in respect of economic growth.China has was able to do so by joining the World Trade Organization, implementing responsible government policy, attracting foreign direct investment, and developing vast export-oriented industries. Near the beginning 1980's, China's economy was very fragile due to its inward looking government system of a socialist planned economy under the Mao government. Living standards were below world averages, and there was barely any economic growth. Al so, there was no inflation due to no extent in growth and unemployment rates were incredibly low.Since opening up to globalization under the Deng XiaoPing government in 1978, through adopting the ‘open door' policy with an outward looking government system, China's system gradually transformed to a socialist market economy, establishing Special Economic Zones in the Southern coastal provinces, opening up to trade with world economies. With the globalizing Chinese economy in transition, impacting substantially on a growing unemployment rate since the 1980s to estimated 9% in urban areas while rural is estimated to be as high as 30% in 2003, while the economy has moved into inflation of 3. % (Nolan, 2004). However, the impact of globalization has improved living standards dramatically, with annual per capita disposable incomes of US$993 in 2003 compared to 1978 of US$299, with a extraordinary growth in the Chinese real GDP (US$1. 4 trillion in 2004) at an average of 9. 5% annual ly and gaining US$1200 billion in 2003 from exports with a rise of 7% per annum for the past decade, has placed China as the sixth-largest economy and the fourth biggest exporter in the world (Nolan, 2004).China's Communist Party has put into practice responsible government policies and long-term strategic planning of slowly opening itself to the integration of the world, has ensured political stability gaining rapid growth, surviving the 1989 Tiananmen Square rebellion, the 1997 Asian crisis and last year's SARS virus without making concessions to democracy, whereas socialist regimes around the world have dissolved. This is due to the impact of globalization, directing 97% of foreign direct investment (FDI) along coastal cities allowing coastal communities to boom while inland rural communities are languishing, with 800 million people left behind by the current growth.Clearly, the economic globalization of China has affected its environment as well. The government has committed to improving infrastructure, but this will inevitably be at the cost of the environment.Much of China's recent economic success from globalization can be credited to responsible government policy and long-term strategic planning. Over the past quarter of century, the economy has gone through a period of drastic structural reform, designed to increase efficiency and competitiveness. A number of state owned enterprises of key sectors have been deregulated, with an increase in private enterprises, competition policies have been introduced and the tax system has been overhauled.China's WTO membership in 2001 has also resulted in the dismantling of many protective trade barriers, such as the gradual phasing out of tariffs, which now averages 12% (Amsden, 2004). Through g lobalization, China has experienced a fluctuating inflationary status from inflation in 1993 of 14. 7% to deflation in 2002 of 0. 8% and now inflation of 3. 4% (Amsden, 2004). Although overall prices have been steady of falling over the past seven years, recently food prices has relatively shot up by 9. 7%, due to flooding of agricultural areas in 2003 (Nolan, 2004).The government is working closely with the central bank and state banks of China, placing new taxes on savings and has lowered interest rates down to 2% thus to influence an increase in aggregate spending to hop out of the liquidity trap, switching deflation into minimal inflation. WTO membership, however, has provided China with globalizing stability, gaining extra resources, accessing to; world technology, market information, global production and distribution ne tworks, and also reduced disruptions to trade by reducing unpredictable policy shifts and promoting stability in China's external economic relationships.Moreover, it is reinforcing growth of the rapidly globalizing Chinese economy, increasing FDI into exports and domestic production; upgrading management skills and technology. All these factors have made the globalizing Chinese economy the most attractive location for foreign companies to base their operations. The main reason Huckelberry Finn is being subjected to such scrutiny is because of the way Twain portrayed â€Å"nigger† Jim, and his use of the racial slur. The Anti-Huckelberry Finn feel that it is to uncomfortable for African-Americans to read the book and think they are being stereotyped into Jim’s image. Though some find it wrong for this American treasure to remain available due to its racism, this is not the case. Even though the word â€Å"nigger† is used over 200 times in the book, it was common for African-Americans to be referred to as this during the period of the book and the time the book was published. Those trying to have Huckelberry Finn censored are also opposed to Jim being portrayed as â€Å"an uneducated man, very superstitious, infantile, passive, and generally uncultured,† as written by Frank Ritter. These ideas may at first seem like the basis for a good argument , but it is later apparent that these  discriptions coeinside with the feelings about African-American slaves at the time. For this reason there is no way that Huckelberry Finn can be charged with not living up to todays standards. The racist ideas put forth in Huckelberry Finn, horrid as they may be, are part of America’s past. Reguardless that it was in the past, it should not be lost, but utilized to see the wrong done to this group of people and to learn from it to better life today. In the four articles there were many contrasting ideas and different approaches to Huckelberry Finn and the case surrounding it. Though there were a few points made against Huckelberry Finn, the general feelings and logic of the articles was that the book should be left, â€Å"as is. † This was clearly stated by Frank Ritter in him saying, â€Å"the present-day objections to Huckelberry Finn are absurd. It is idiocy to go back and apply to novels written more than 100 years ago the standards that prevail today. † In that same article, John Wallace’s ideas on the teaching aspect of the book were more than irrational. He called the book, â€Å"the most grotesque example of racist trash ever given to our children to read,† and then continued on to verbally abuse teachers in the past and those who will use Huckelberry Finn in their classes. The four articles though offering some help to the offense, defend Huckelberry Finn in many more ways. This idea was best put forth in the Seattle Times article, in the part speaking of the english teacher who has assigned the bood for 28 years saying, â€Å"the book has a ‘raw edge’ and that some of the language is offensive, but the positive value far outweighs the negative. † The Adventures of Huckelberry Finn should not, in any way, shape, or form, be restricted from readers and students. This great American novel is part of our history, a part of history that has lasted and been passed on from generation to generation. The passing on not of racism, but of a way to learn about the past and to learn from it. English classes, as well as readers, have utilized this book to better understand the way of life on the Mississippi in the first half of the 1800s. Huckelberry Finn is not only a good way to teach literature, but also to help people open their eyes and see what life was really like. More importantly to learn from the mistakes made in the past. Those who haved picked up this book have used it to become not hating and racist, but further educated and more understanding people. In censoring this classic, the First Amendment rights which are so priceless to our country, would debase them and our entire American way of life. This incrdible masterpiece of 1800 America would be forgotten if censored. This would do away with all the morals our country stands for and obliverate the book’s incredible author. There are many ways around censoring this work and the bull will not go down without a fight. This awesome piece of art, known as The Adventures of Huckelberry Finn, won’t be vanquished.

I have watched two adverts produced to promote/raise The Childrens Society to see how they persuade you the audience to give money to this worthy cause. In advert one it uses lots of close up shots, which make the audience feel vulnerable. In the first frame a violent angry man leans into the camera, that makes the audience feel vulnerable. The man shouts, Shut up and sit down. This is an extreme close up. If this makes the audience feel vulnerable the audience wonders how the child must feel. In the second frame, this time instead of speaking the man uses body language. He looks very troubled with his hands on his head, this also is a close up. In the 3rd frame it uses voice-overs and intense sounds. You can hear the echoing of a slap, this is exaggerated. Then there is a blackout and then out of know where you see an arm coming towards the screen this makes the audience feel intimidated. Then a face appears and the hand hits the face and again there is a big echo from the slap that is exaggerated. Doing this it makes the audience feel as though it is them, like the arm coming towards the screen puts the audience in that moment to give them an idea of how the children feel (pain and sadness). Over all of this is voice over asking the audience questions, this makes the audience watching more involved and forces them to make up their mind on the questions being asked as they are watching it. After that frame it shows an adult leaning out of a window and goes into a blackout and back to that person outside at night slumped against some wall. Then there is a blackout again and it comes back to an extreme close up of an aggressive man. He is shouting but they have cut the sound so you cant hear him. Again it feels like he is shouting at the audience and this makes them feel vulnerable. Then it goes to another extreme close up of a man who is looking gloomy and then replaces the mans face with a little boys face which also looks dazed. The audience feels sorry for this little boy and then they have an orange background with black writing that says, They cant change their world on their own, but we can help. Using the word we makes the audience feel as though they have to help. The Logo that represents the charity also appears. The charity logo has what looks like their matchstick children coloured in red, blue and yellow. These colours are what we class as primary colours and we generally associate these colours with children. Its like ABC, when we think of this we think of young children so the same applies really to these basic colours that young children know. Advert two throughout has a popular Christmas soundtrack playing over the top, which is, War is over by John Lennon. In the lyrics it says, What have you done, this makes the audience think why this girl in the advert deserves any of this. In the first frame a caption at the bottom of the screen appears and says that 90,000 children run away each year. While a girl is walking in a busy place. In the second frame a red double decker drives along side her, which we generally associate with our capital London. They have put her in London because shes a small child all on her own and its such a big city for a little girl to be in. She is not dressed for winter weather. The parents watching would probably not think twice about putting warm clothing on their child when it is cold, so this makes them feel sorry for the little girl. She stands in front in front of two billboards one with Labradors sitting around a fire and the other has the words trusted and a can of larger underneath. She then walks by some homeless people standing around a fire. Even the homeless people have something to keep them warm. Then she walks past a bouncer who is leering at her. The man is about 40 and she is about 10 and there is a sign near him saying girls. She then walks past a gutter with syringes in and a man who looks drugged up. By know the audience are disgusted at what they have seen. The Childrens Society is trying to show to the audience that they need there donations to prevent children from be subjected to this type of behaviour in the world. Then they show the girls face with tears rolling down it. Nobody likes it when children cry and the audience will be feeling very sorry for the little girl. This image is very powerful. Then she comes past a BT billboard that says Christmas past and Christmas present a famous quote from Charles Dickins. It doesnt say future. This suggests to the audience that this girl doesnt have a future and the only way she will have one is if they donate some money to this organisation. Then at the bottom of the billboard there is white writing with a black background that says, Happy Christmas. This also suggests to the audience that she wont have a happy Christmas. All of these things are making the audience feel more depressed and they want to help this little girl. Then a black background appears with The Childrens Society and number 0839 800 900 so the audience can donate some money to the organisation. The depression that the audience feels know is bad and need to know that they have done something to help especially as it is around Christmas time when every should be with there family or friends. Both of these adverts have one thing in common they try to persuade/convince the audience at home to give money to their organisation The Childrens Society, which can only help these poor children with donations from people like yourself. But both of the adverts are in away different in how they get the message across. I think that advert 2 is more effective because everybody feels sorry for the 10-year-old girl. The clever aspect of this advert is as she walks down the street it shows what children can be exposed too and what their organisation is trying to prevent, for example when that man leered at her. Both adverts are very moving and powerful in how they are presented to the audience. Parents sitting watching the adverts will not want their children to ever experience what the girl or boy experienced from the first and second advert. They generally feel that they have to give some money. 1984 and Brave New World Undoubtedly, the thought of living in, or forming a utopian society has flashed through nearly every person’s mind. A few people have even tried to make this ideal dream society a reality. Unfortunately, within the pursuit of these societies the leaders become corrupt and begin to become paranoid with the fear of rebellion. Hundreds of people were murdered during the reigns of Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin in what they considered measures to maintain peace and stability within their respective â€Å"perfect† society. One must also consider the hardships that the citizens were forced to endure while living under these oppressive governments. This dream of forming and maintaining a utopian society was immortalized in two novels dealing with the same basic ideas, 1984 by George Orwell and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Both of these novels deal with the lives of main characters that inadvertently become subversives in a totalitarian government. These two books differ greatly however with the manner in which the government controls the population and the strictness of the measures taken to maintain this stability. This essay with compare and contrast the message and tone of each novel as well as consider whether the utopia is a positive or negative one. In 1984, George Orwell explores the many facets of a negative utopia.
